Geissele Automatics, initially known for their heavenly triggers and sturdy rail systems for the AR-15 platform, has steadily diversified their retail offerings into optics mounts, optics and even complete rifles. And I’m a fan – all my guns sport G triggers and most use a Geissele rail system. So when the North Wales, Pennsylvania manufacturer sneakily added AR-15 magazines to their line up, I was very interested to learn more and hopefully get a shot at owning a few. Geissele magazines!

Then, like an icy cold shower, I see the price: $20 for black and $22 for tan – each. For reference, quality magazines from DURAMAG, Surefeed, Magpul and others are running at anywhere from $9-$12. So, what’s the special G sauce that allows these magazines to demand such a premium? After all, this is Geissele we are talking about.

My brother-from-another-mother @fromtheguncounter on Instagram who is the voice of reason on all things gun related, posted some observations:

Like Charlie Brown after he is denied his field goal kick for the millionth time, I felt betrayed. Searching for answers I turn to booze, hard drugs and other risky behaviors.

But then, the unthinkable happened, Geissele saw the error of their ways, noted the actual manufacturer as D&H and dropped the prices to normal levels:

That was quite an emotional rollercoaster ride for what should have been a normal Tuesday night. My faith in the industry is restored. I’m not sure if I’ll be buying G Mags right now, but at least they are available at reasonable prices for those who are ready to pull the trigger.
