Federal Premium keeps opening the flood gates on new products for 2021 and they continue that trend with additional offerings through their Hydra-Shok Deep line of ammunition with a 380 Auto Hydra-Shok Deep 99 Grain and 38 Special +P Hydra-Shok Deep 130 Grain. This will give concealed carry advocates of tiny handguns – snubby revolvers and pocket 380s – another ammo offering to tantalize over when they are selecting their carry ammunition. All of the specifications for these new offerings can be read below as presented by Federal Premium:
- Consistent penetration beyond FBI-recommended 12-inch minimum in bare gel and
through heavy clothing
- Performs reliably through any barrel length
- Iconic center post design has been improved for better, more dependable expansion
through standard barriers
- Specially formulated propellant
- Extremely reliable primer with sealant
- New 380 Auto and 38 Special +P loads
- 380 Auto Hydra-Shok Deep 99 Grain | 20 Count | P380HSD1 | MSRP $25.99
- 38 Special +P Hydra-Shok Deep 130 Grain | 20 Count | P38HSD1 | MSRP $31.99
The pricing for these 20-Count boxes is right in line with a lot of Federal Premium’s other ammunition offerings, but the only real question is whether or not it will be readily available to consumers. This is of no true fault to Federal Premium or Vista Outdoors as the firearm industry as a whole is seeing an astounding demand for all things firearms and ammunition related. To further expand on these 2 new Hydra-Shok Deep offerings Federal Premium has this press release statement below:
Shooters shouldn’t have to settle for substandard protection from any platform. Hydra-Shok Deep® has unlocked the full defensive potential of smaller cartridges with loads in 380 Auto and 38 Special +P. Both utilize Hydra-Shok Deep’s robust center post and compact core design to consistently penetrate beyond the FBI-recommended 12-inch minimum through bare gel and heavy clothing—without over-penetrating. The bullets expand aggressively, pushed at ideal velocities by high-quality primers and consistent propellant.
It is nice that Federal Premium offers this line of ammunition that provides adequate penetration even in smaller cartridges that are often sold in smaller handguns. I have one 380 Auto in my personal arsenal that sees some summertime carry, and I would definitely contemplate using this ammunition if I can get my hands on some. Would you?
