Photo Of The Day and we are looking at an SG-43 Goryunov Machine Gun. It uses the 7.62×54mmR cartridge and was introduced during the Second World War, in 1943, to replace the M1910 Maxim.
Here we can see students who are assigned to the U. S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School as they undergo the Special Forces Weapons Sergeant Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in May 2020.
The SG43 is supposed to be used mounted on wheels like here or on tripods or armored vehicles. I suppose you should dig in a little deeper in a real hot situation.
The Soldiers were trainined to employ, maintain and engage targets with select U.S. and foreign pistols, rifles, shotguns, submachine and machine guns, grenade launchers and mortars and in the utilization of observed fire procedures.

Do you remember when TFB went to Moscow to shoot a 1944 Maxim? Also, check the “Finnish Veteran Shooting a Maxim Gun Again” POTD.
