British MagLoad Ltd. has introduced new +6 magazine extensions for Gen 3 Magpul PMAGs. What makes this product interesting and different compared to most of the other magazine extensions available on the market is that it has a stackable design allowing to change the magazine capacity in 6-round increments by adding or removing extension sections.
MagLoad stackable extensions are made of a polymer that is advertised to be highly durable and lightweight. These extensions are installed in place of the original PMAG floorplates and have floorplate mounting rails at the bottom to allow installing the original floorplate back to the extended magazine or installing another MagLoad stackable extension. Each extension also utilizes a screw that allows securing it to the magazine body or to the next section. These magazine extensions are compatible with Magpul Ranger Plates and presumably any other PMAG floorplate. MagLoad stackable PMAG extensions are available in the following nine color options: Carbon Black, Sunburst Yellow, Ice White, Sky Blue, Bright Green, Fire Red, Tangy Orange, Deep Purple, and Salmon Pink.
The addition of multiple extensions will of course require use of longer springs to ensure reliable feeding. Here is what the company says concerning tailoring the spring lengths to magazine capacities:
Generally, the stock spring in a magazine is good for 1x extension, so if you have a 20 round mag and you extend it to 32, you need a spring from a 30 round mag. This would in theory enable you to add a third extension with this same spring.
The MagLoad stackable PMAG extensions are listed on the company’s website at an MSRP of £23.33 (about $32). They do ship this product worldwide and the shipping cost is calculated at checkout. The price is identical for all color options.
MagLoad is specialized in the development of competition shooting products and their stackable PMAG extensions are primarily aimed at this segment of the market, too. In fact, this product is designed by Rifle World Champion Jarkko Laukia. These extensions will allow competition shooters to adjust the capacities of their magazines to any particular stage.
